Nicolae Forminte: “The juniors started to grow”

The Romanian gymnasts dominated the Romanian Internationals which took place last weekend in Ploiesti.  Asked by Prosport to mention a few positive aspects of the Internationals, the head coach of the girls’ team, Nicolae Forminte, said he is glad the juniors are also starting to grow and to be more consistent during the competitions. “I can say that a significant progress can be noticed for all of them since their first competition this year..”

He added that he is satisfied with the status of training for the European Youth Olympic Festival  (Tampere, July 18-25): Raluca Haidu, Diana Trenca and Amelia Racea will be attending this competition, while Diana Bulimar will be the alternate. However, he is not satisfied with Diana Chelaru’s inconsistence during the Internationals, despite the fact that she has good training sessions.  According to Forminte, even though Diana has managed to correct her form issues during training, the emotions during competitions bring them back again and again. Another issue concerns the members of the Olympic team present in Beijing, who seem to have weight and motivation problems, which have also caused some health issues.

“On the other hand, I was very glad with Porgras’s comeback. I’m looking forward to her doing all four events.  I believe in this gymnast if she stays healthy. It’s such a pity that she came to the senior team with that injury, because she couldn’t train until surgery and recovery were completed. I don’t want to force her on all four events right now, but I believe she can have a good competition on beam and even uneven bars at these Worlds, if she trains more and if she gains some more experience. I hope we will have great satisfactions from her starting next year”, Forminte stated.

Asked about Diana Bulimar’s presence at the Internationals, he said his intention is to bring three of the juniors (Larisa Iordache, Diana Bulimar and Madalina Neagu) to train together with the seniors, as these three girls have a higher level than the other juniors, the ones they are currently training with. Moreover, he would like them to train gradually within the big team, so that when they become seniors they would not have to force themselves to reach a good difficulty level in a short time. “Diana Bulimar only came here in order for us to test her level at the moment.”
