Sandra Izbasa and Flavius Koczi – second place at Swiss Cup 2008

The Swiss Cup has come to an end. In an atmosphere of a demonstrative gala with dancing lights, 22 gymnasts competed for occupying a good position at the 30th edition of the Swiss Cup.

The Romanian representatives, Sandra Izbasa and Flavius Koczi, chose to compete in the final on floor and vault, respectively. Sandra had a clean routine, but with a lower starting value, leading to a score of only 14.650 points. Flavius obtained the highest score from the competition, 16.125, after performing two nearly-perfect vaults. The total of 30.775 points wasn’t however enough for winning, the two being surpassed by the Chinese team, He Ning and Lu Bo. On the third place ended up the Russian team, Ksenia Afanasyeva and Maxim Devyatovski.

If a couple days ago, during the Arthur Gander Memorial, Nastassia Marachkouskaya suffered an injury during her evolution on floor, today we have witnessed a similar situation. Oksana Chusovitina has torn her Achilles’ tendon after a bad landing at the end of her second pass on floor, making it impossible for the German team to qualify in the final.
