Romania at the European Youth Olympic Festival
Having participated in all the previous editions of the competition, Romania will also take part in this year’s Olympic event. The following 6 gymnasts will represent the country: Larisa Iordache, Maria Balea and Georgiana Gheorghe in the women’s competition and Andrei Groza, Daniel Radeanu and Alexandru Avram/Andrei Savu/Raul Paraschivu (the name of the third gymnast has not yet been confirmed) in the men’s.
The highlight of this year’s competition will be represented by the much awaited “duel” between Larisa Iordache and the Russian gymnasts: Anastasia Grishina and Anastasia Sidorova. The EYOF is the second stage in this confrontation: the first took place last year at the Junior European Championships, where Larisa and Grishina tied for first place in the floor final.
The challenge between Romania and Russia is now a tradition at the European Youth Olympic Festival. Two years ago, at the Tampere event, the competition was dominated entirely by Amelia Racea (with 6 medals) and Viktoria Komova. The Romanian gymnasts took home 10 medals from the 2009 event: 2 golds, 6 silvers and 2 bronze.
Good luck to all our gymnasts at Trabzon. Hai Romania!!!
