Catalina Ponor and Sandra Izbasa can become Romania’s oldest World and Olympic Champions if they manage to surprise in Tokyo and London. Catalina, who will be 24 in 2 weeks, has a different perspective in gymnastics: “I now understand things both from a coach’s point of view and from a gymnast’s. I will try to take everything in and do my best.“
After solving her health issues, Ponor knows when and why her heart will hurt again: “My heart will probably hurt when my competitors will loose the chance to that medal.“
Sandra Izbasa‘s 21 birthday was back in June and this year she has already won two European titles on vault and floor. She would like to do it again at Worlds and at the Olympic Games. She is also training bars to become a contender in the All-Around competition: “I cannot hide it for a long time, I will have to take it to competitions. Yes, I have started training bars too and I’m trying to have it ready even before the Olympics.”
