DTB Cup and Toyota Cup 2008
This weekend is going to be rich in events for the Romanian gymnastics, due to the participation in the two of the most popular competitions throughout the year: DTB Cup and Toyota Cup.
The DTB Cup, organized in Stuttgart, Germany, will benefit from the participation of about 138 gymnasts, including great gymnasts like Fabian Hambuchen, Jordan Jovtchev, Hisashi Mizutori, Maxim Devyatovsky and Anton Golostsutskov. Romania will be represented by a few members of the MAG National team: Flavius Koczi (Olympian: AA and VT finalist), Adrian Bucur (bronze AA at Romanian Nationals 2008, Olympian), Cosmin Popescu, Marius Berbecar and Ovidiu Buidoso. In the WAG competition the evolutions of the Olympic champions Cheng Fei and Yang Yilin (China) will be the most expected, as well as of the Russian gymnasts Ana Pavlova and Elena Zamolodchikova, and of Daria Zgoba and Alina Kozich of Ukraine.
The program of DTB Cup:
Friday (November 14):
– 10:00 – qualifications WAG
– 16:00 – qualifications MAG
Saturday (November 15):
– 10:00 – event finals (WAG and MAG)
Sunday (November 16):
– 13:30 – all-around (WAG and MAG)
The official start list of the DTB Cup can be found here.
Almost at the same time, but in Japan, Sandra Izbasa will participate at the Toyota Cup. According to the start list, Sandra should not have any problems with winning the two events she has chosen to compete on: beam and floor. The MAG competition, on the other hand, is going to be much more interesting: the members of the Olympic silver medalists (Hiroyuki Tomita, Kohei Uchimura, Takehiro Kashima and Makoto Okiguchi), but also the multiple European champion on pommel horse, Krisztian Berki from Hungary, will delight us with their evolutions. Romania will be represented by Daniel Popescu (pommel horse, vault), Alin Jivan (rings, vault) and Robert Stanescu (rings, parallel bars). Daniel and Robert were members of the Romanian squad placed 7th in Beijing.
The official start list of the Toyota Cup can be found here.
Good luck everybody!

Excuse me, but you made a mistake when talking about the Japanese Gymnastics Team:
“the members of the Olympic bronze medalists (Hiroyuki Tomita, Kohei Uchimura, Takehiro Kashima and Makoto Okiguchi)”
They actually won silver at the Beijing Olympics. Please rectify!
Thank you very much!
Thank you very much, Ana for telling us about the little mistake. We know that they won the silver medal, but it was just an unwanted mistake. Sorry!
Thanks again!
Yes, that’s my mistake actually…I was translating from Romanian, I was in a hurry and I didn’t pay attention (but in Romanian it’s actually correct).
Mea culpa.
Thanks for the correction, Ana.
Thank you!
It’s ok, don’t worry so much about it!
