Nicolae Forminte suffers from cancer
Just yesterday we read in Libertatea an interview with Nicolae Forminte which provided us with some very sad news: the head-coach has cancer. Skin cancer, to be more precise. It is apparently localized on his chest and it can be removed by surgery. We really hope it’s not more than that and wish him lots of health!!

Nicolae Forminte has cancer. “It’s not the end of the world”
The man who brought the Olympic bronze in gymnastics, the coach Forminte, has cancer. But he doesn’t complain. A fighter and an optimist, Forminte never thought of giving up training the National team.
For years, Forminte has felt that something wrong was going on with him. But he never thought that it could be so serious.
“My wife was asking me: Why don’t you want to go [to the doctor] and see what’s with that spot? – What, do you want them to tell me it’s cancer? Me, joking…”
Modest and worried for his girls, the gymnasts, Forminte needs to have the surgery. He’s going to have it in Romania.
“It’s not really the end of the world, I just need to find some time for this. In a country where there are many people much sicker than me and nobody asks them anything about that, I don’t really represent much.”
The girl who helped Forminte get on the podium in Beijing, Sandra Izbasa, is the most worried about the coach’s state of health.
“Sandra, I can feel that she’s watching me in the moments when it’s visible that I’m not in too good shape.”
