News about Romanian gymnasts
A few days ago we have read a couple of articles in the Romanian sport newspaper “Prosport” and we thought they might be interesting also for our non-speaking Romanian friends. The news concern Ana Porgras and Anamaria Tamirjan.
- From the first article we find out that Ana Porgras has suffered an injury while training on the beam, in the ribs region. Luckily, the medical investigations showed that it’s not something very serious and, as we all know, she’s competing these days at the DTB World Cup in Stuttgart. What’s most interesting from this article is the interview with Ana, which we are going to translate here.
About the injury
“I was afraid it could be something much more serious, that I would need again to take a break from training. Fortunately, the result of the medical investigations showed that there was no fissure, which was a relief!”
“It’s still painful, but the bandage keeps it tight, and there were a few days when I haven’t trained at all. It was awful. I cannot stay far from training.”
Ana is presently training only on beam and uneven bars, these being the events she’ll compete on till the end of the year.
After London
Although only 16 year old, Ana displays a maturity which contrasts strongly with her innocent, childish, face. She knows perfectly what she wants, where she is right now and that she’s been experiencing a little bit of her dream, after thousands of hours of training, during the Worlds in London: “I have comeback from there with more experience, with the belief that everything is possible, that more work means more medals. I am feeling more mature, more responsible in the way I am training”.
The beam, the eternal challenge
After being betrayed two times by beam during the Worlds finals, and now almost causing her an injury which would have kept her again on the side, beam still remains her favorite event. Moreover, after everything that happened, she became even more ambitious: “I like beam as much as before. I fell because of me, because of the emotions and because I haven’t been careful enough. In the future, I’m going to master my routine better, it’s a challenge which I will go over with a lot of work”.
Close to the end of the year, her thoughts are to 2010, when both Europeans and Worlds will have team competitions. A new dream, a new goal, this time split in four: “Next year the team is the most important, not me. I have to do my job for the team, to help my colleagues. My wishes for 2010 are related to the team and then to me, I wish that we’re going to stay healthy”.
Drawing, her hobby
Extremely modest, Ana talks only a little bit about herself and everything she says is about gymnastics. Any discussion comes to her dream of going up on the podium, to become the best: “It’s normal, what I do is my life, I like to talk about this. I am glad I got here and that I can do what I want.” When she’s not “drawing” the elements on the floor or on the beam, during trainings, Ana uses the pencil and the paper to make drawings. “Landscapes, animals, places, people, everything means something and I like to get them on paper. It relaxes me a lot and this way I carry everything with me”, says Ana, with a shy smile behind her blue-green eyes.
- The second article from Prosport refers to Anamaria Tamirjan, who had some problems this year, after the Europeans , and who resumed training short before the Worlds. There, as we all know, she only competed in the AA competition (placed 9th). Unfortunately, the news areis not good, since she needs to have a double surgery, on both knees.
The nightmare continues for Anamaria Tamirjan. Prepared for a surgery meant to remove a cyst from her left knee, she has been diagnosed with a pinched meniscus at her right knee.
“It’s a big shock for me, but this makes me more determined. I am going to continue to fight for my dream”, declared Anamaria, for Prosport. She’s going to be seen in the next days also by dr. Stanculescu from the Universitary Hospital in Bucharest.
