Mr. Forminte, what are your goals for this year? It is the first year from the new Olympic cycle.
The goals of this year are first of all to cover the European and World Championships, where the participation will only be individually, and I am thinking of the all-around competition and the event finals. I would like to make a kind of census of the gymnasts from the old team who will be able to continue and, at the same time, to take care that the gymnasts from the new generation grow healthily, so that, next year, we can be able to go with a competitive team to the Europeans and the Worlds.
Starting this year a new code of points has been introduced. How is the training according with the new code going?
The training goes on linearly. We are trying to apply the new regulations and the modifications at all events…I could say that, at this moment, it is going satisfyingly well.
Tell me what the problems in the team are now.
At this moment I am not talking about the team. I am only talking about individuals, I am very interested in how Sandra will be able to resume to high level training and how Anamaria Tamarjan will be able to come back after the break, as well as how Gabriela Dragoi will be able to recover, so that, all three, will be able to participate at the Europeans. We are also up on speed with a young gymnast, Chelaru, who’s turning 16 this year, so that we can go with a debutant at these Championships, with the idea of forming her for the future team.
The health problems at the Olympic senior team: what are they? There are injured girls, some of them suffered surgeries, how are they feeling now?
From all the girls who have suffered injuries, the closest to full recovery is Ana Porgras, who has recently had a surgery in Italy and whose recuperation is going very well, giving us hopes that she will be able to compete at the Worlds. We are worried about the extended break period of Patrascu, of Acatrinei and even Dragoi. I want to tell that the girls who haven’t trained for a long time are already starting thinking about retiring.
This year, the individual Europeans and World Championships will take place. Who do you take into account for the all around competition?
All the gymnasts who have attended the Europeans will make the qualification round. Obviously, I am thinking at Sandra Izbasa and Anamaria Tamarjan for the AA competition and, equally, for the event finals.
Today the Romanian Sport Gala took place. Can you tell us something about this event?
Although I respect many people who were today present at the Gala, the whole event disappointed me and I regret that I participated.
Why is that?
Because I cannot understand the criteria taken into account for these awards. I can understand the subjectivity of the newspapers, magazines, and TV channels, which are free to make any kind of ranking. But I have been used, at least till now, with the rankings given based on results and not on the impact on the public. Therefore, I consider that a mistake has been made, which I regret, but we cannot do anything about it.
