Marius Urzica – the new head-coach of the Romanian MAG team?

Well, this is a difficult question because nobody knows exactly what the situation of the MAG team is. After Nicusor Pascu announced giving up training in Romania because of some personal issues, the Romanian Federation tried to find very fast a solution. The first option was to name the Olympic Champion, Marius Urzica, as head-coach. However, Marius only accepted the position of a coach in the team the one of head-coach being left open. So, our question was: Who will be responsible for the team?
After a while, we found out from a reportage shown on Realitatea TV that still, the responsible person for training the team will be Marius, although he is not the official head-coach. At the same time, Ioan Suciu will be the person who will keep in touch with the Romanian Gymnastics Federation. But this is not all: during that same TV reportage it has also been mentioned that another coach of the team is going to be Marian Dragulescu, while he will be continuing training as a gymnast for 2012 Olympics.
The whole situation seems confusing, and surely not only for us, taking into account that lately some important gymnasts have announced their retirement: the member of the 2004 Olympic bronze team, vice world-champion in 2007, Daniel Popescu, and the European parallel bars finalist, Cosmin Popescu. Both of them took the decision of giving up training after the 2009 Worlds…actually since all this crazy situation began.
How will the future of the Romanian MAG team look like? We don’t know yet…we have to wait and see. We are sure that the coming Europeans and Worlds will shed a light on this issue. We only hope that the right choices will be made.
Good luck everyone!!!
