Alin Jivan and Marius Berbecar at Glasgow Grand Prix (update)

Glasgow Grand Prix represents one of the most important Word Cup competitions after the Olympic Games in Beijing. The 12th edition of this GP will take place on Friday 17th and on Saturday 18th October in Kelvin Hall.

Even if no important WAG gymnasts participate this year, within the MAG competition we will see many World or Olympic medalists, such as: Louis Smith, Mitja Pekovsek, Aljaz Pegan, Diego Hypolito, Jordan Jovchev and Yuri van Gelder. Romania will be also represented by the almost 25 year old Alin Jivan, the winner of the bronze medal in the vault final during the World Championships in Melbourne.

Alin Jivan comes back after a long break, during which he had to get over many health problems, the most severe being the one occurred in 2006, an Achilles tendon injury. Despite his efforts of recuperating and coming back at his highest level last/this year, Alin has not been selected to represent Romania in Beijing. We are very happy that he got over this big disappointment and he decided to continue. We hope we will see him in good health and shape in London 2012. Go Alin!!!

UPDATE (16.10.2008)
The list of the gymnasts participating in the Glasgow Grand Prix has been recently updated. The Romanian 23 year old gymnast Marius Berbecar is also going to compete. For Marius Glasgow GP is the first big competition he participates in after being an alternate for the team during the World Championships in Aarhus in 2006. Marius Berbecar is one of the Romanian hopes for London 2012, his favourite event being parallel bars (he is the 2008 National champion at this event).

The program of the competition:
– Friday, 17th October: qualifications (13.00 – 17.30)
– Saturday, 18th October: finals (13.30 – 17.45)
(BBC2 is going to broadcast parts of the competition)

We are going to follow the competition and we will to give you as many details as possible about Alin and Marius’ evolutions, but also about the other competitors!!
