The Universiade, the competition which represented, in 1981, the last important competition for the career of the Olympic legend Nadia Comaneci, will take place in Belgrad 30th of June - 12th of July. The competition will comprise various disciplines: archery, artistic and rhythmic gymnastics, athletics, basketball, diving, fencing, football, judo, swimming, table tennis, tennis, taekondo, volleyball and water polo.

Gymnastics competition will take place on June, 25 - July, 5 2009, as it follows:

  • 25th of June - 1st of July - free training and podium training for both men and women;
  • 2nd of July - team competition women;
  • 3rd of July - team competition men;
  • 4th of July - AA competition for both women and men;
  • 5th of July - apparatus finals for both men and women.

For the women team competition, the countries that will present a whole team will be: Norvegia, Slovenia, Egypt, Czech Republic, Popular Republic of Korea, Korea, Great Britain, Russia, Japan, Ukraine and China.

As a result, Romania will only be represented in the men competition, together with: Norvegia, Portugal, Belgium, Egypt, Brazil, Greece, Finland, Mexico, France, Switzerland, Serbia, Kazahstan, Canada, Poland, Great Britain, Slovenia, Taipei, Japan, Russia, Korea, China, Hungary and Ukraine.

As per official website, the Romanian gymnasts will begin on vault, ion the 4th subdivision, starting with 4.40 PM. Our representants will be: Flavius Koczi, Ovidiu Buidoso, Adrian Bucur, Marius Berbecar and Cristian Bataga.

The women competition will put face to face two of the Romania’s greatest rivals, China and Russia. China will start on beam (as well as France), Russia on vault, while as Ukraine on floor.

This competition, the latest great one before World Championships in October, will be a good verification for all the gymnasts. It will also permit us analyze the preparation stage of the Romanian male gymnasts, as well as the one of our competitors: Korea, China and France for men; Russia and China for women.
