Oare cum ar arata o echipa alcatuita din: Lavinia Milosovici, Simona Amanar, Maria Olaru, Andreea Raducan, Catalina Ponor si Sandra Izbasa?

Catalina Ponor: “I am a very strong person and I am able to get through any problem”

    From Adevarul:

“I didn’t want to regret not trying, so I said I would try first and see what would happen.

Nadia supports me emotionally; any support from her is welcome.

My dream is to play the piano, I like it.”

Adevarul: You bravely decided to come back this year after a pretty long break, a tough decision to take. How much time did it take to get back in shape?

Catalina Ponor: One night. I think I thought overnight I wanted to go back to gymnastics. When something is good for me, I don’t take much time to think it through. I didn’t want to regret not trying, so I said I would try first and see what would happen. I came back determined to do a good job, make the Olympic team and compete at Worlds, Olympics etc.

    Catalina Ponor

You were a little disappointed by the Tokyo Worlds. Are you still determined to go to the Olympics?

I am a very strong person and I am able to get through any problem. It’s true that I was very disappointed by what happened there, both for the girls and for me personally. We, Mr. Bellu, Mrs. Mariana and I, are used to winning or at least being on the podium while at this Championship we came really close to the podium and this was disappointing, even discouraging. I am a strong person, I will get through any problem and as you can see I am here and I keep training, so I got over this too.

Ana Porgras: “I will focus on beam and bars to help the team”

    From GSP:

The 2010 World champion on beam, Ana Porgras, who turned 18 on the 18th of December, remembered her first steps in gymnastics.

    Ana Porgras

“I was as little as them when it all started. I was 4, at home in Galati, and I showed my mum I could do all kinds of tumbles. It was then when they had the idea to take me to do gymnastics. I liked it from the beginning and I did not miss any big competition. I sat in front of the TV and watched the girls and Andreea Raducan and all I dreamed about was to be in that hall”.

    Little time left
Sport changed her childhood. Playing moved to the gym and turned into training. “When you are in sport, your childhood is completely different but the chances to make it are different too. Other people cannot do in their entire life what we do before we are 20. When we are gymnasts, we are no longer kids. We don´t have time to play anymore. I remember playing with my big sister, Georgiana, and having to leave for training when I was having a lot of fun. At home I would be watching cartoons all the time, my favorites were The Little Mermaid and Peter Pan. When I moved to Onesti I no longer watched TV. I also left dozens of dolls at home.” She fondly remembers winning her first medal: “I was around 10 when I went to a competition in Buz?u. Of all the girls at the Galati club, I was the only one to medal, I think on floor. I felt like a princess, unique. There were many talented girls there, maybe even more talented than me, but I was the only one to go far. Maybe I was lucky to go to One?ti but I also worked hard.”

    PARALELE:

    1. Komova: 15.700;
    2. Iordache: 14.150;

Oare are ea si timp liber?”.

Erau zile in care te uitai in oglinda si iti spuneai singura: “Trezeste-te!

Catalina Ponor: “Worlds were 70% disappointment and 30% joy”

    From Adevarul:

Catalina Ponor is the Romanian gymnastics team’s star. After her 2007 retirement, she returned to the gym after a 4 year break and made the Tokyo World team.

    catalina ponor

Adevarul”: How did you get to practice gymnastics?

Catalina Ponor: It was because of my grandmother, when I was 4. Probably God gave me this gift because every time I passed by the gym I would point out I wanted to go there. Once I went in I couldn’t leave anymore.

What did you want to be when you were little?

I don’t know if I ever dreamt about something else because I started at 4 and I stayed on this path, wanting to be like Nadia. She was the role model I wanted to equal.

Did you feel like the favorite to win a medal at the 2004 Athens Olympics or did you just hope to come in first?

I wasn’t hoping, I could really say: “Yes! I am the favorite to win a medal!” I didn’t actually imagine I would win three, but I wanted at least two.

Did anything announce the three titles?

Yes, the evening before I dreamt 3 white horses! I didn’t know what that meant, but my mum said it was a good sign.

Did you ever want to give up gymnastics?

You have many moments like this in life. I am a strong person and I never gave up when faced with this kind of moments. On the contrary, I tried to push and motivate myself even more.
