Amelia Racea and Adrian Bucur at the American Cup 2009

A decision has finally been taken regarding our presence at the American Cup, end February: Amelia Racea and Adrian Bucur will be the ones representing Romania. They are going to compete against gymnasts from 9 other countries:

USA: David Sender, Joseph Hagerty, Bridget Sloan and Jordyn Wieber
Germany: Fabian Hambuchen and Kim Bui
France: Benoit Caranobe and Youna Dufournet
Rusia: Kristina Goryunova and Yuri Ryazanov
Japan: Koji Uematsu and Koko Tsurumi
Canada: Brittany Rogers
Venezuela: Jessica Lopez
Puerto Rico: Luis Rivera
Great Britain: Becky Downie

A few words about our gymnasts:

Amelia Racea, 15 years old, is a really promising junior. She became beam European vice-champion and floor bronze medalist at the Europeans last year in Clermont-Ferrand, France. She is also the uneven bars and floor National champion and beam National vice-champion. Taking into account the temporary absence of her colleague, the beam European champion Ana Porgras (who recently suffered a surgery at her knee), Amelia can be considered the best junior that Romania has at this moment. The National head coach, Nicolae Forminte, believes in Amelia’s future and hopes that she will do well in US.

Here there are few of her evolutions from 2008:

Adrian Bucur, 24 years old, won the bronze medal in the AA and floor competitions during the Nationals last year in Ploiesti. Adrian was a member of the Romanian team present at the 2007 Worlds in Stuttgart, when he replaced Marian Dragulescu, who had to withdraw then because of health problems. Adrian was also a member of the Romanian team, placed 7 at the Olympic Games in Beijing.
